The end of the year was just around the corner, November already approaching fast and it seemed the morning was already here. Terri had approached her other female jockey co-worker Meredith with a bright smile upon her face. Grabbing the halter and the reins to Menace she squinted her eyes at her closest friend, "Mere, what are you doing?" Terri had said before realizing she was grabbing a few said treats which meant she was about to take Sillencio out for a stroll. The bay son of True Enough certainly shared his optimism in the terms of showing off, but the colt was bossy and Meredith only knew her own efforts are what got the colt to be steady. "At least I don't have to wear some extra padding for your boy." Meredith said in return.
The look Terri gave to Meredith was simply sarcasm with the thought. Menace was not like Lenny, he was just as his barn name described him to be. Leaving Meredith to her treats, Terri found her way to Menace's stall who was kicking and bobbing his head with a scream nobody wanted to hear. The Impressario colt settled with the sight of Terri at his door. Mason approached Terri with his arms folded across his chest and a nasty scowl upon his face, "Sam was nuts allowing Dark Sunrise to be paired with Impressario...Keep him steady do have him rush to the lead quickly and have him just lash it out." Mason suggested before he headed off to Meredith. Terri rolled her eyes with a smile before placing her hand over the colt's snout as if he allowed her to pet him. "Let's go for a run okay boy." Terri said latching the halter and reins on perfectly as she unlatched the gate before Angela showed up to help handle the colt. Meredith however, already had Lenny out and about while watching Menace raise his head at the sight of his beloved uncle the two seem to have a vile recognition over each other. While Angela held onto Menace, Terri placed herself upon the saddle on the back before Menace gave a bob of his head and a thrust of his neck ansy to go out, he started to push his handler away as if to say stay away from me. "Hey there boy, nice and easy." Terri said before Meredith walked Lenny out alongside the black colt. Both jockey's were having fun knowing they both had equal chance at winning however, Lenny was finding his true path running over the turf surfaces, Menace was already accomplishing the field with his win over the first leg of the Turf Challenge. Both horses went out easy and with there only being two horses in the field, it made Menace push for the lead and Lenny followed within the path of Menace. The black colt didn't even seem to tire out with the rush of speed he was gaining and the stamina he held was something of a relief. Lenny remained on his heels as he came in on the inside matching the strides of Menace before the black colt pinned his ears at his workout rival. Terri looked in the direction of Meredith who was challenging her dear friend as Terri shook her head before she saw the halfway point and set Menace loose like a rocket. In My Remains pushed off his hind legs and the extent of his strides made him push into a faster pace around the last corner. Menace was a machine on the turf and luckily next season, the staff was prepared to extend his training over the dirt. Lenny was not going to back down and Meredith set another pace for the bay colt as he took off around the corner holding onto sights with Menace as the two nosed out the wire, both jockey's were laughing at the ability that Lenny and Menace were working out so well. |
