His PersonalityBane is a colt with a passion for competition. When he sees a chance to run, he takes it, and it can be quite difficult to stop him once he gets started. He is a bit of a show off, always making sure he is seen and that everyone knows that he is around, and dislikes being ignored. He handles well for those he knows, but can be very troublesome for strangers - especially if he feels that they haven't given him the due attention. However, in the presence of another colt (or stallion, for that matter) he becomes difficult even for those who have known him for a long time.
While seemingly not bothered by the presence of fillies and mares, this youngster has something against those of his own gender and will kick up quite the fuss around them. He isn't aggressive toward them, but takes after his father in thinking that to have all the attention and steal the limelight is the way to go. His show off side really comes into it's own in the parade ring when other colts are around, though he is being trained out of such behaviors when it comes to the track. Bane is a lovely colt to work with. While not a huge fan of fuss he does love attention and seems to bond well with those who give it to him. This means it is easy to form a bond between him and a prospective jockey which will lead to ease in training. |
His StyleGating is not an issue for this confident colt who sees it as just another obstacle between himself and the competition he loves so much and so tends to be a quick and easy process. The only issue which tends to crop up here is that he can become over-eager and approach the gate too quickly, forcing the handler to circle and bring him to the gate again. Once gated he can initially be a little fidgety but with a little reassurance from his jockey will settle down and wait for the race to begin.
When the gates open this competitive boy breaks quickly and will make a bid for the lead, which is his favourite place to run. However, in a race with several front runners he will drop back and take up a preceding position on the request of his jockey so that he does not use all his stamina fighting for the lead at the beginning of the race. As a front runner, Bane tends to set an average to high pace for a race, where as a preceder he is adept at matching or falling just lower of the lead horse's pace. Bane can be a little awkward for his jockey at times and it is important that they ensure he knows who is boss from the beginning of a race if they want to be able to rely on his doing as they ask. As such, it is important that Bane is matched with a strong jockey who can meet up to his competitive spirit. This is most important in races with large fields, where the competitive atmosphere can cause him to become excitable. With Bane in the race, you can guarantee that the home stretch is going to be interesting. He will release a little something he has held back, build upon his already high speed and hold it. If this is enough to get him by he goes with it, but when competition draws around him he seems to truly come alive. His competitive spirit and strong heart mean he will not back down from a challenge and he truly fights to try and remain ahead until the pass the post. If he gets eye contact with another horse he will not lose it, unless they drop back. RACE RECORD || 30 8-8-6
